Pinhas Stirikus 03. Juni 1942 In general, you do know what our position is in our native country, but you cannot possibly imagine the immense tragedy which is taking place here. Tens of thousands of our fellow nationals have already left the country almost barefoot and naked. Now our turn has come. By the 14th of this month we are due to leave our present locality, as all Jewish inhabitants of the small communities are obliged to gather in the district towns of their regions, from where they are being sent away in transports. In scaled cattle cars, of course. What is their destination? They disappear! I hope that I will be able to bear the hardship which we will have to face, Old people and babies, and even the disabled and severely ill persons will be sent for liquidation in this ‘humane Christian’ manner (words of the officer in charge here).
